Sponsored places
A few buildings in the town are marked Sponsored. They stand in the village park by the pond, apart from the news. They are not stories: they have no score, no courier and no part in the ranking, and a sponsor cannot choose, change or pay to enter a story.
Whose they are today
The building there now is a product made by the people behind Latentown: ArchReady. No outside company pays for it. It is a promoted placement, so it carries the Sponsored tag. If an outside company ever pays for a place, it will be marked the same way and listed here.
Links from sponsored places
A link from a sponsored place to its own site is tagged (utm_source=latentown) so that site can
tell the visit came from Latentown. Latentown does not use those tags to follow individual people.
How the news is chosen
Stories come from the labs' own posts and from news outlets, and every story links to its original source. Ranking is by automatic rules, not by an editor. A short description is the source's own words or, when the source only repeats its title, a plain line built from what the town knows about the story.
